Disaster Preparedness
As a public service supplier, NIC is committed to maintaining service availability under extraordinary circumstances. We have a dual approach for disaster preparedness. We have invested in the systems and training necessary to ensure we continue to operate effectively under emergency conditions. This core capability supports our commitment to provide exceptional and uninterrupted service to the communities that we serve.
In the community's Emergency Management Plan, we fulfill the requirements and expectations of the Building Department. We are on call 24/7 and have NIMS certified personnel with fully equipped vehicles ready to respond to emergencies that require damage assessment, on-site decisions and data collection by qualified building and/or electrical inspectors. As a result of our multi-jurisdictional activities, we have a wealth of "hands-on" experience in dealing with the aftermath of tornadoes, floods, major fires and industrial accidents. Our internal measures to assure service continuation include:
- Designated multi-level back-ups for all personnel
- Geographic dispersal of equipment/vehicles
- Full capacity emergency power generation for our offices
- Reciprocal back-up between cell phones and land lines
- Off-Site back-up of all electronic data
- Remote stand-by computer systems
- Regeneration/recovery processes for all "work-in-progress"
- Random total/partial disaster drills
